Join The Rock City Climbing Team
The team consists of girls and boys between the ages 6-17 that want to achieve their maximum potential. The team is managed by parents and trained by professional coaches that focus on injury prevention, footwork, sequencing, movement and commitment.
Climbing skills and commitment ranges from recreational climbers that are interested in improving all aspects of their climbing abilities in a fun and engaging team environment to competitive climbers that are dedicated to being the best they can be. In either case, we emphasize a supportive team environment.
Competitive Climbers will also focus on:
Mental aspects of climbing
Setting goals, assessing and logging progress
Competitive climbing begins the transition from “climbers” to athletes
Recreational climbers will work on:
Work toward competing
Both recreational and competitive climbers meet on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 4:45 to 7:00 P.M. for practice. Competitive climbers are encouraged to add additional climb time and training. In addition to practice, competitive climbers can expect to compete in five to eight regular season USA Climbing competitions that are local (within 100 miles of Rock City) and potentially travel out of state for Divisional or National events per year.
In addition to indoor practices and events, we encourage outdoor climbing events. Climbers will have several opportunities to participate in both day trips and overnight trips.
Rock City Climbing Team boasts quite possibly the lowest membership fees among climbing teams. Similar teams charge $150 to $200 per month. Rock City Team dues are a low $95 per month. Additional training, outdoor events, gym fees and competitions are in addition to the monthly team coaching fees. Gym fees are separate from the Team fees; Rock City offers Team Members discounts on annual gym memberships. During the tryout period gym fees, team fees and equipment are free of charge.
Your child may enjoy climbing and while a climbing team offers a supportive atmosphere, climbing can be demanding both physically and mentally. Tryouts give coaches a chance to work with and evaluate each child to determine if being on a climbing team is truly in the best interests of your child.
Evaluations are not solely based on ability. Coaches are looking for poise, grace, determination, attitude and potential. We recommend your child climb at a gym at least five or six times with you present before trying out. If you notice the attributes our coaches are looking for, please contact Maurice to schedule a tryout.
Scheduling tryouts. We have your child climb with the team during practice and Rock City provides any necessary equipment during the tryout period. Climbing with the team for a practice or several practices gives your child, the coaches and you a clear idea of whether team climbing is right for your child.
All Rock City Climbing Team Coaches are background checked and have an extensive knowledge in climbing technique and injury prevention. Our coaches are trained to teach the specific needs for youth climbers.
